Top 10 LED Bulbs Tested and Ranked
We bought, tested, and measured 10 of the most popular LED bulbs on the market. Here's how they ranked on brightness, color accuracy, dimming performance, and overall value.
How We Tested
Every bulb was evaluated on five criteria:
- Measured lumens vs. advertised lumens
- CRI accuracy using a spectrophotometer
- Dimming range and smoothness
- Noise (buzzing or humming when dimmed)
- Value (performance per dollar)
Each bulb was run for 100+ hours before measuring to allow burn-in stabilization.
The Rankings
#1 — Philips Ultra Definition A19 (2700K)
Score: 9.4/10| Spec | Rated | Measured |
|---|---|---|
| Lumens | 1100 | 1087 |
| CRI | 90+ | 93 |
| Watts | 10.5W | 10.3W |
| Dimming | 10–100% | Smooth, no flicker |
#2 — Cree Exceptional A19 (2700K)
Score: 9.2/10 Cree's highest-CRI bulb delivers stunning color accuracy at CRI 98. Slightly more expensive than the Philips, but if color matters (think art studios, photography), this is the one.#3 — GE Reveal HD+ A19 (2850K)
Score: 8.9/10 The best budget option, period. GE's filtered glass enhances color vibrancy in a way that makes rooms look more alive. At $4.49, it's a steal.#4 — Sylvania Natural A19 (2700K)
Score: 8.7/10 Sylvania's entry hits CRI 91 at a competitive price. Good dimming performance and a clean, warm light output.#5 — Feit Electric IntelliBulb A19
Score: 8.5/10 A clever bulb that offers 3 color temperatures (2700K/4000K/5000K) with a standard switch — no smart home required. Flip the switch off and on to cycle through modes.#6 — Philips Hue White A21
Score: 8.3/10 The smart home king. Excellent dimming, tunable 2200K–6500K range, and deep Hue ecosystem integration. But at $54.99 for a single bulb, it's only worth it if you're committed to the Hue system.#7 — Wyze Bulb White
Score: 8.0/10 The budget smart bulb champion. Tunable white, decent brightness, and app control for under $8. CRI is average (80), but the value is unbeatable.#8 — Amazon Basics A19
Score: 7.5/10 Gets the job done. Adequate brightness, reasonable CRI (82), and incredibly cheap at $1.50/bulb. No dimming support, which limits its usefulness.#9 — Feit Electric Vintage ST19
Score: 7.3/10 Beautiful Edison-style filament aesthetics. Light output is modest (450 lumens), but the warm 2100K glow is perfect for decorative fixtures and restaurant-style pendants.#10 — EcoSmart A19 (Home Depot)
Score: 7.0/10 A basic, affordable LED. CRI 80, standard brightness, no frills. It works, but competing bulbs offer better light quality for the same price. The Bottom Line
For most people, the Philips Ultra Definition is the best LED bulb. It balances performance, price, and availability perfectly. Budget shoppers should grab the GE Reveal HD+. Color-critical users should invest in the Cree Exceptional.
